Downtown Miami

The urban core, rising fast.

“Downtown Miami used to be a place people left at six; the newest towers are a bet that they'll finally stay.”

Anchored by Bayfront Park and the Miami River, Downtown is the county's civic and commercial center — and, after a decade of projects like Miami Worldcenter, its fastest-rising residential corridor. The Freedom Tower, a 1925 Mediterranean Revival landmark that once processed Cuban refugees, still holds the skyline's low ground amid the glass; the newer high-rises around it trade Brickell's finance-district polish for river frontage and proximity to the arts district and the Metromover.

$$$ · Contemporary American

A hidden trattoria inside the 1925 Shoreland Arcade — arched doorways, high ceilings hung with local art, and handmade Italian classics served under live jazz, open since 2004 and still one of Downtown's best-kept secrets.
