Coconut Grove

Neighborhood guide

Coconut Grove

Miami's oldest neighborhood, its most bohemian.

“Nothing here is symmetrical, and nothing here is accidental — the Grove has always preferred canopy to skyline.”

Founded before Miami itself, Coconut Grove has spent a century resisting the city's more polished instincts — a canopy of live oaks and banyans over bayfront parks, sailing clubs, and estates tucked behind hedges rather than gates. Vizcaya, James Deering's 1922 bayfront villa and Italian Renaissance gardens, remains the Grove's defining structure and the clearest evidence of how long money has quietly lived here. It reads artsy and laid-back on the surface, with some of the county's highest land values underneath.
